AFD Theatre logoThe deadline is Monday, May 13, to apply for the $3,000 scholarship annually awarded by the Arlington Friends of the Drama -- the Denis M. Fitzpatrick Scholarship.

Graduating high-school seniors in and near Arlington who intend to continue their studies in theater at the college level are invited to apply for the scholarship.

It is for students interested in performance, directing, writing or technical studies such as set, lighting or sound design.

Applicants should be planning to pursue theater either as a major or as a minor.

The scholarship was named after a beloved member of the theater community who acted, directed and helped sustain AFD in a myriad of ways, a news release said. Mr. Fitzpatrick also was head of the English Department for the public schools in Belmont.

The winner is to be notified by May 30.

Arlington Friends of the Drama is one of the country’s oldest continually running community theaters and is now in its 101st season.
