UPDATED, July 30: Blue skies -- not scorching heat -- highlighted as many as 25 female artists and entrepreneurs at Uncle Sam's Plaza in Arlington Center on July 27.

An estimated 500 visitors under tents pored over creative wares for five hours on a Saturday. "The event went very well," said Cara Loffredo, cofounder of Boston Women's Market, which sponsored the day.

The market at a spot steeped in town history was postponed from July 20 because of the heat.

Pets were welcome at the family-friendly affair.

Amid female business owners wielding crafts and clothing was Seyyide, a belly dancer who added her many moves, though the market did not hire her. She has a street-performer license after the Arlington Commission for Arts and Culture booked her to do a Live Arts' presentation earlier this year.
