Here's a pleasant East Arlington business surprise, in time for the holidays -- a shop is expanding.

Maxima Gift Center, 212 Mass. Ave.Maxima Gift Center, 212 Mass. Ave., East Arlington.

Maxima Gift Center, a fixture in Capitol Square since 1997, has opened a pop-up store in Lexington Center until the end of the year.

Co-owner Jelena Babic told YourArlington on Nov. 15 that the main store's 900-square-foot "miniversion," at 1740 Mass. Ave., at Waltham Street, opened Nov. 2.

Babic said the owners are "experimenting." Their first such store, they are looking to welcome Lexington customers, who she find supportive, to the shop's broad array of gifts.

A familiar face is behind the Lexington counter -- Rose Hazard, who has worked at the East Arlington store.

Babic said the shop expect to be involved in local events, including "A Taste of Lexington," Wednesday, Dec. 4, 5 to 9:30 p.m.

She made sure to add that she also remains loyal to longtime Arlington patrons.

Hours in Lexington are Monday through Friday, 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The phone number is the same as Maxima's, 781-646-6835.
