With summer just around the corner, Arlington offers several festivities this weekend, all unanimously approved by the Select Board on Monday, June 13:

  • Friday, June 17—Garden Party

The Friends of Robbins Town Gardens hosts a garden party from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.

To be held at the Robbins Memorial Garden, between Town Hall and Robbins Library, enjoy live music and casual picnic-type food from local restaurants Blue Ribbon BBQ and Jose’s Torta Mexicana, along with soda, water, beer and wine from Kappy’s Liquors in Everett.

You can buy tickets with a check or exact change at the Book Rack, 13 Medford St., Arlington Center, or at the Select Board’s office, second floor of Town Hall. All proceeds go toward the gardens’ continued restoration and maintenance.

Price: $50, which includes a meal of your choice and two drinks.

  • Saturday, June 18—Arlington Reservoir grand opening

The Arlington Park and Recreation Commission officially opens the fully renovated Arlington Reservoir on June 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Ribbon cutting is at 10:30 a.m.

Come celebrate with food, games and DJ-provided music.

“This is a tremendous accomplishment, with a $45 million budget. The Recreation Department and director have done an outstanding job, and I keep hearing from residents how well everything turned out, including the paths, parking lot and beaches,” said Select Board member Eric Helmuth.

  • Saturday, June 18—Garage Band performance, Wyman Terrace

Presented by the Arlington Commission for Arts and Culture (ACAC), this live, family-friendly musical event showcases the town’s rich cultural fabric, at the service station at 334 Mass. Ave., at Wyman Terrace, from 6 to 8 p.m., following the townwide Porchfest.

This event, originally held in 2019, “had a great turnout of approximately 1,000 people,” said ACAC’s Thomas Davison.

Ed Blundell, ACAC Community Engagement Committee, said, “I look forward to this free concert. It should be really interesting, and the weather looks great.”

“This is one of the many terrific events the ACAC does for the arts in Arlington,” said Helmuth.

Arlington International Film Festival banners

This fall, be on the lookout for Arlington International Film Festival banners festooning Arlington Center and East Arlington, from Sept. 15 to Nov. 14. This 12th annual festival will be held Nov. 3 to 6 at the Capital Theater in Arlington’s Cultural District.
