school committee 120517

The Arlington School Committee met Thursday, April 11, 2024, in hybrid session -- via Zoom and in-person at Arlington Public School District's office, 14 Mill Brook Drive, second floor.

A brief reorganizational meeting was held at which Paul Schlichtman was voted as chair, Jane Morgan as vice chair and Laura Gitelson as secretary. This was followed by a shorter-than-usual regular session at which the committee  voted in favor of a nine-day April 2025 field trip for Arlington High School students to Italy, 6-0-1, Morgan abstaining.

Superintendent Elizabeth Homan reported that Gretchen Saunders has been hired as principal of Hardy Elementary School. Homan also noted that at a future meeting the committee would be asked to approve another field trip-- this one for five days to Maryland for middle- and high-school students to participate in the annual National History Day competitions.

The committee went into closed session for negotiations with the teachers' union, with no ensuing report.
