UPDATED Nov. 26: Town officials have said that they want to remind residents that today is "Small Business Saturday." According to the town website, 90 percent of Arlington's businesses are operated by fewer than 10 employees.

Officials also plan to facilitate the ease of parking, and, indirectly, holiday shopping, in the main business district in town for the next month. On all Saturdays during the holiday shopping season, the town offers free parking at all metered spots in the two municipal parking lots in Arlington Center (Russell Commons Lot on Mystic Street and the Railroad Lot on Lamson Way).

In other holiday-week news, trash collection throughout town is one day behind. Those who normally have Thursday pickup were slated for pickup Friday; those with normal Friday pickup should expect that service today, Saturday, Nov. 25, officials said.

The Town of Arlington earlier announced updates to office hours for the week of Thanksgiving. Town Hall offices were closed Thursday and Friday. For a detailed list of other facilities affected by the holiday, read below. The Robbins and Fox libraries both were closed Thanksgiving; both resumed their normal Friday hours.

The following offices were closed Nov. 23 and 24:

  • Town Hall, 730 Mass. Ave.
  • Community Center, 27 Maple St.
  • Recreation Office, 422 Summer St.
  • DPW Administrative Office, 51 Grove St.
  • Inspectional Services, 51 Grove St.
  • APD Records Room, 112 Mystic St.
  • Fire Administrative Office, 411 Mass. Ave.
