UPDATED, Oct. 7: Whole Foods Market donated $6,045 to Food Link to support the Arlington-based food-rescue nonprofit.

Food Link was the 5% Day recipient at Whole Foods in Arlington and Medford on Sept 7.

The nonprofit is a community organization that rescues fresh food, alleviates hunger and contributes to environmental sustainability.

"Food Link is honored," DeAnne Dupont, cofounder and president of Food Link, said in a statement Thursday, Oct. 6. "We greatly appreciate Whole Foods Market's financial commitment plus our partnership in food collections over the past three years.

The Chamber of Commerce honored Dupont as its first citizen of the year before an estimated 300 people on Thursday, Oct. 6.

"This generous donation will enable Food Link to continue to provide fresh produce, dairy and bread to food pantries, youth programs, low-income housing residents and many other agencies in Arlington, Medford and nin9 additional surrounding communities. Thank you to Whole Foods for making Food Link the beneficiary of 5% Day!"

Matthew Robertson, marketing and community relations, Whole Foods Market, said in the statement: "Food Link is such an important piece to our community. Partnering with them to assist in distributing food to residents in need aligns with our Core Values in every way. A big thank you goes out to the Arlington and Medford community for making our 5% Days a success."

The nonprofit thanked its volunteers and the community for the success of the fund-raiser.
