Heights tree-lighting, stroll, 2022

UPDATED Dec. 10: The annual Arlington Heights holiday stroll and tree lighting took place Saturday, Dec. 9, from 2 to 5 p.m. This event was put on by the Arlington Heights Community Association (AHCA), which invites residents of all ages to stroll along Mass. Ave. to view winter-themed painted windows and to enjoy family-friendly activites.

The suggested route started at Shattuck Heights Hardware, 1298 Mass. Ave., and ended at Maruichi Japanese Food and Deli, 1398 Mass. Ave. More than 60 painted windows are at 25 storefronts, according to a press release. The tour included the "You are Loved" mural on the side of Szechuan's Dumpling, recently created by muralist Alex Cook with the help of community members.

The stroll ended with a tree lighting outside the ACMi studio, 85 Park Ave. Guests enjoyed free cider and cookies there.

 

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

2 to 5 p.m.

  • "Touch a Truck," hosted by the Arlington Fire and Police Departments, joined by Intelligent Labor & Moving plus Top Notch Contracting. Kids can talk to firefighters, police officers and contractors and touch a fire truck, police cruisers and heavy equipment vehicles expected to be stationed at the Heights Bus Depot.
  • Family games: Outdoor games like bean bag toss and candy cane ring toss are planned front of the Heights Bus Depot.
  • Artists Holiday Store and Artisans Market: Paintings, pottery, fiber art, collages, clothing, accessories, jewelry, photography and more are set to be available at Roasted Granola Café, 1346 Mass. Ave. PACC Singers at 2022 Tree Lighting outside the ACMi studio
  • Photo op with face cutouts of gingerbread and snowmen at Classic Kitchen and Bath Design Showroom, 1321 Mass. Ave.
  • LARP (Live Action Role Play) Adventure Program with high schoolers in medieval costumes who are expected to be strolling Mass. Ave. for photo ops. 

2 to 3:30 p.m.

  • Holiday Kids Crafts (ages 5 to 9) with local artist and art teacher Tonya Grikin at Wonder Yoga Studio, 1305 Mass. Ave.

3 to 4:30 p.m.

  • Photo op with Santa. Inside ACMi Studio, 85 Park Ave.

3:30 to 4:30 p.m.

  • Music performance by local musicians Denise Lotufo on cello and Telden Lopes-Lotufo on violin at Roasted Granola Café, 1346 Mass. Ave.

4 to 4:30 p.m.

  • Puppet Show: Ages 5 and up. “Monkey Makes Mischief in Heaven,” presented by Margaret Moody Puppets, a lively episode of the Chinese folktale “Journey to the West” told with acrobatic Bu Dai Xi puppets and choreography at Wonder Yoga studio, 1305 Mass. Ave.

4:45 to 5:15 p.m.

  • Holiday choral performances by the Arlington High School Madrigal Singers followed by the Park Avenue Congregational Church singers in front of ACMi Studio, 85 Park Ave.

5 p.m.

  • Tree Lighting with free hot cider and cookies provided by Food Link, Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s and ACMi, outdoors in front of ACMi Studio, 85 Park Ave.

 The AHCA states that it is a group of Heights business owners, residents and nonprofits who meet monthly to address local concerns, support beautification projects and organize/fund public events to promote vibrant community engagement. The group's beautification projects and events include 12 seasonal flower planters (half-funded by Cambridge Savings Bank), three window-painting events -- Halloween, winter and spring -- the winter holiday stroll and a summer festival. 

The group welcomes new volunteers.
